FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q
I really like your products,
and I have some things you may be able to use. Do you ever consider trading?
A
Sure! I have a number of items
I desire listed on my "prices" page. Though these are the things I would
like to have the most, I have also been known to trade for other unique
products. This is a great way to fill Christmas lists and obtain needed
supplies, as well as meeting new people and collecting many wonderful pieces
by other artists and crafters. Just send me an e-mail of what you have,
and what you desire. We'll take it from there :)
Q
Hi there. I am writing
to ask a huge favor. My daughter wants to make rice necklaces for her
birthday party and I can't find anywhere who sells the supplies for this.
Would you be willing to tell me where to purchase the materials for a simple
rice necklace or perhaps sell me some materials? I would greatly appreciate
it! Thanks!
A
You can buy most of the
materials at your local craft store, but I have yet to see the vials there.
I purchase my supplies through wholesale companies. If you would like to
purchase vials from me, I charge 1.50 for the plain vial and 2.25 for shaped
vials.
Normal shipping charges apply.
Q
Do you buy from the
craft supply places you have listed?
A
Yes. I normally buy
from the wholesale places, though I have a couple retail stores listed
who are near where I live and I frequent them often. There are other stores
listed who simply have swapped links or pay a comission, however these
stores must meet my standards to appear here.
Q
I have a rice necklace,
but it was broken. Can you repair it?
A
As long as the
beads are there, I can repair your necklace whether or not it was
purchased from me. In some cases, I have even been able to match beads.
The charge will depend on what parts need to be replaced, and the amount
of work involved. An estimate will be sent to you before repairs are
made. Generally, if the necklace is similar to what I offer for sale,
charges will be minimal. If materials need to be special-ordered, the
repairs will run you a bit more. In a worst-case scenario, you would
be better off getting a new necklace. If this is the case, I will let
you know and send your necklace back at no charge.
Q
I have a sample
rice with a name on it that I got at another place. Can you put it in
a necklace?
A
Since vials cannot
be opened once sealed, this can be handled
in 2 ways:
1) You can mail
the rice and I will put it in a necklace.
2) I can just do
another rice for you and put it in a necklace.
I do not charge
for the rice when I do a necklace for you, so it may be easier for you
to just have me do your rice. Sometimes people may have a souvenier rice
that has a special meaning to them. If this pertains to you, wrap the
rice in a tissue and put in a padded envelope or medicine vial to send.
Q
I'm looking to order two name bracelets. One of
them with the name "Brittany on it and the other with the
name "ryan" on it. I want them to be similar to the ones shown
on the bottom of your examples page #1. I don't know how big or
small they have to be, so my question is, are these simple tie-bracelets
that can be made to fit any wrist? Also, what colors are available?
A
Generally, I make the bracelets with a latch-hook
loop closure. This closure is not adjustable, but I can
make a simple tie closure per your request at no additional charge.
It is still helpful to know if the bracelets will be for a child,
small adult, or large adult. Colors available are black, red, forest
green, yellow, dark blue, turquoise, natural-olive, natural beige,
or purple.
Q
What types of closures do your necklaces have?
A
Hemp necklaces with picture pendants have a button-loop
closure. The button is a flat polymer bead which locks
in the loop when turned, and is quite secure. A latch-hook clasp
is available upon request at no additional charge. Other hemp
necklaces will have a tie or latch-hook closure. Leather and rattail
necklaces are closed with a latch-hook.
Q
Do polymer beads break or chip?
A
Polymer clay is very durable, however, it is not
impossible to break or chip your beads. Some of the more
detailed designs will chip easier as they have thinner pieces
in places. Just make sure you don't put them in a washer or dryer.
I have also found that cats and dogs will chew them, so keep
them away from animals. With normal care, these beads can last
a very long time!
Q
I don't see the design I am looking for- can you
make it if I send a picture?
A
I will TRY almost anything. Please know I will
not infringe on copyrights. Just send a picture to the address
below, along with your request. Be sure to include your phone
number, best time to call, and an e-mail address. I may send a
picture for your approval before shipping the item. There will be
a 2.00 special order charge for this service.
Q
Do you guarantee your products?
A
Yes. I guarantee you will receive what you have
ordered in new condition. A copy of your original request
will accompany your order when it arrives. If you are not
satisfied with your order, please let me know so I can remedy
the problem. You will be asked to return the item in the same
condition as it was received. Items that have been obviously
worn or abused will not apply. Please know shipping costs are
non-rufundable.
Q
I would like to sell your hemp necklaces in my
store. Would you be interested in consignment?
A
At this time I would not be interested in selling
on consignment. However, I do offer ways you may earn money with
my products- Just click on the banner below for details.
Q
Do you sell your letter beads?
A
Yes. I hope to have a new craft supply page, which will
include a price list for many supplies. You will find many of these
prices at, or below wholesale! I hope to have this page up between
now and February 2002. In the meantime, you may inquire via e-mail.
The letter beads are available in bags of 100. The assortments
are carefully weighted to include more of the most common letters,
and include each letter of the alphabet, some hearts and blanks.
The price for this assortment is 2.99. Currently, only the white beads
with black letters are available at this price.
Q
Does the dyed hemp fade?
A
As long as you do not wear your dyed hemp
jewelry in a chlorinated pool, or use bleach on it, your
hemp color should remain vibrant for a very long time. Dyes
used in the hemp coloration are water-safe and fade resistant.
Q
I also make hemp jewelry and would like to
make some of these beads. Could you tell me where to get the
clay?
A
The clay is available in your local craft store,
however, my designs are protected by copyright. Do not copy
my designs without my written consent. If you would like to buy
my beads, I will send you a pricelist.
Q
I am interested in making my own Hemp jewellery as a hobby,
however, I
cannot find anywhere on the net instructions on how to start
as a beginner.
Is it possible for you to email me basic steps to start handmaking
my own
Hemp jewellery?
A
There is the basic knot shown
on my site on the Q & A page. All other knots are variations of this.
There are also some good books listed in the Crafters' Reference Library
Builder as well.
Unfortunately, I get this question
very often, as well as how do I make my beads. As I would love to help, there
is also a drawback...If I told everyone how to make my stuff, I would not
have a business. I, and others in the craft business, learned through hard
work and purchasing books/classes at one point or another. Please understand
that I must recommend you purchase a book if you want to know details on
anything other than the basic knot. The best book I have found is Hemp Masters.
Almost every knot is explained and shown step-by-step in this book, and it
is available through the Reference Library Builder on my site, along with
other books on the subject.
Thank you, and good luck.
(The following Q & A is
what I referred to in my reply.)
Q
Love the examples, that really helps customers with purchasing.
I would just
like to know how exactly you make the knotted necklace with hemp. I
looked back at some of the art pieces I had accomplished in elementary
school and thought that they looked gorgeous. I'm not sure how to make
them though. If you could, I would greatly appreciate if you shared your
secrets with the knots.
Thank You!!
A
As requested, here is a quick illustration showing how
to make a basic macrame knot. This particular knot will be flat.
To make the
necklace twisted, just keep repeating steps 1 and 2.
There are numerous
other knots that are basically just variations of this knot...Don't
be afraid to experiment a bit, as you may discover many things!
Be sure to pull your knots tight evenly for best results.
Marianne
Special note: There are a
number of good instruction books on the market which are easy to
follow. Please check the "Crafters' Reference Library Builder"
on this site for my suggestions.
Q
Do you buy hemp necklaces? Do you have a store or
something? If you do, I'd love to try and work something
out. I've been making necklaces for 4-5 years now and
all are handmade and well crafted.
A
This website is my only
store, though I attend many art and craft shows during the summer
months. I design and make all
of my own products, though it is hard to keep up with
demand at times. Unfortunately, it is hard to find high quality
hemp jewelry at a low enough price to make it worth purchasing for
resale. You are welcome to send pictures and a price list to the
address below for consideration, but there are no guarantees I will
purchase. Please do not send e-mails with attachments, as they will automatically
be deleted without opening.
Your input is always appreciated.
If your questions are not answered here, please feel free to
post you questions in my guestbook
.
