Places to Show and Sell
Joining
local art galleries, art guilds, craft clubs,
and other groups
is a good way to gain knowledge, experience, exposure, as well as sales. Below are some links to groups I belong to, to give you an idea. I am sure there are many others in your own areas. The Left Bank Gallery is now accepting fine artists' membership applications. We are seeking members in all medias, especially pottery. You must live in Flint, Michigan, or surrounding areas. Your work will be juried, and standards are high. For an application, please send your request to: leftbank@gfn.org Please include your mailing information. Please visit their site by clicking on the logo. Join the Creative Circle Co-op! A national group of crafters dedicated to selling and promoting each others' work.
Photographing Your
Work
It
is important to represent your work with good clear photographs
when applying to shows, assembling catalogs, or building
websites. Choose a camera with high resolution for
best results. I have provided a couple links below to
help you shop around.
Auction Sites
Online
auctions are good places to sell your work.
Though you may not be able to get the highest prices
for your work, you save in time, hassle, and rising
show fees. You may also find many supplies and display aids
at bargain prices!
Build a Website! It is a good idea to have a
website.
If you do not know
how to do this, there are people
out there who can help for a small fee. You
may also want to try contacting your server.
Your server may offer this type of service. Many servers
also offer free web space to their customers.
I have also included some links so you may shop around.
If you don't know HTML, there are many programs that can help you to design your own site. This looks like a pretty good one for the price: Questions? Computer problems? The "Geek" can save you alot of money! Talk to a live computer expert 24/7 for free. SpeakWithAGeek.com is offering a free trial membership that you can use right now! Web Hosting Services When I ran across Infinology's site, I was amazed at how much they offered at such a low rate- I just had to pass this information on to my fellow crafters and artisans! When I started building my website, I quickly ran out of space and had to move to another server. All the promotion I had done had to be started over- new business cards, new search engine submissions, etc. It was extremely tedious and set me way behind. With Infinology, you can get a free domain, more space than you'll probably ever need, email accounts, and lots of traffic to get you noticed- all for a very low price! Infinology SmartConsumers Hosting / $6.95/Mo. / 9000 Megs of Space, 50 Gigs of Traffic, 50000 POP3 Accounts + Free Domain - CLICK NOW! Here are a few more hosting services to look at, and then we will talk more about promotion and paperwork:
If you are building
from scratch, here are some goodies to help you build your site!
Xara 3-D Software is what I
used to create my title, home button, and e-mail buttons on this
site. It is excellent software that is very easy to use, and very
affordable. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to create professional
graphics for their sites.
Below is a demo of one of their new programs. Please feel free to try it out!
Once you have your site up, you
will have to promote
it. You could spend months on creating
a great site, but it will be lost in cyberspace
without some effort. Heavy promotion is
the key to a successful site.
